Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
